Community Service

The SPCG tries to be an active member of the community. Some of our members are also members of the local fire departments and the York County REACT team. In addition to providing Emergency Communications we also support various community events.

  • For many years, members of the SPCG supported the Shrewsbury Fire Department's Annual Fire parade. We place members along the parade route to assist with closing streets, providing progress reports on the parade, assist spectators who might become injured or ill, and provide general communications for the fire department all along the parade route.  If you attended the parades, you may have noticed the men and women along the route with their hand held radios.
  • Members of the SPCG participate with other clubs to provide communications for WalkAmerica and other events in the York County area.
  • Members also participate in county-wide drills like the Three Mile Island and Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant drills held each year.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA   BSA
The SPCG also supports Boy Scouts.  We recently taught the radio merit badge curriculum and had a number of boy scouts obtain their radio merit badges.  We also support a big boy scouting event called Wizard Safari.  The next Wizard Safari weekend scouting event is coming this October 1st through October 3rd, 2010.  Check out the brochure here:  http://wizardsa.startlogic.com/wizardsafari/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Safari-Brochure-2010.pdf
KB3IGH, John, has obtained a special event station call sign for the event.  We will be operating the event as W3W special event station from October 1st, 2010 to October 3rd, 2010.  Please QSL to either KB3IGH@yahoo.com  or K3AE@arrl.net.
