Field Days wtih SPCG

Field Day is always the 4th full weekend in June and is sponsored by the ARRL. The SPCG has a long history of participation.

For 24 hours over the Field Day weekend, Amateur Radio Operators in every state and across Canada bring their equipment into the field, setup under emergency power and contact as many other Amateur stations as possible. From our Field Day site, SPCG members usually make contacts throughout most of the US and Canada.

Exercises such as Field Day help amateur radio operators maintain their readiness to serve the community during emergencies such as severe weather, flood, major accidents, hurricanes, earthquakes, power and communications outages, or terrorist attack. At such times, radio amateurs volunteer to pack up their own equipment and at their own expense travel to the affected areas to provide communications to the shelters, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and other emergency agencies. The first communications into or out of affected areas are often via Amateur Radio.

The annual Field Day communications exercise is sponsored by the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) to foster emergency communications preparedness. The ARRL has more than 156,000 members and is a national organization for Amateur Radio. There are more than 2.5 million Amateur Radio operators worldwide.

The SPCG is a local ARRL affiliated amateur radio club located in Shrewsbury PA and is proud to participate in this national event. The public is invited to visit and learn about Amateur Radio and to join in the fun. Learn first hand how amateur radio works, and maybe even make a few contacts under the watchful eye of one of the operators.
